Evelyn Lindquist

1912 to 1995

by Phil Johnson

Evelyn Lindquist was a dear friend to Pietisten. She subscribed faithfully and sent notes of encouragement regularly. We appreciated her very much. The second and last time that I saw Evelyn was in September of 1994. She enjoyed herself greatly at the “Sounds of Sweden Concert” performed by Christina Ekström and Bo Haraldsson at Bethlehem Covenant Church, Minneapolis. After the concert, she said to two of Pietisten’s editors, Tommy Carlson and me, that she was worried about Penrod. He seemed troubled, she thought, referring to "Nothing is Notable,” Penrod’s column in the Summer 1994 issue. She said, in the nicest way, that she was praying for him. It is not likely that Penrod has known of Evelyn’s interest in him but he will when he reads this. I think he will be touched by her loving concern. It is an honor and a blessing to be thought well of by such a distinguished Christian person so you can see why we appreciated her.

Evelyn accomplished many things during her 83-year life and career. In the late 1950s, she conducted “Adventures in Reading,” a reading instruction program on KTCA television. She taught Bible at First Covenant Church in Minneapolis and taught its Ladies Day Out Bible Study Group until her death. These are but a few of her deeds.

“She will be remembered as an excellent speaker and Bible teacher, a beautiful and gracious woman who always had a good word for every one” (The Park Center Newsletter). Blessings on her memory.
