A Contemporary Psalm
I am lost, and yet, surrounded by the lost. Wandering through my life, Seeking the way, But not knowing the way.
I am lonely, and yet, surrounded by the lonely. Searching for fulfillment, Seeking the light of my soul, But not knowing the source of that light.
My heart lies dormant, my spirit yet unborn. Where, is the direction of my needs? What, will fulfill my feelings of emptiness? Where is the path?
The way is here! I have sent My son, To mark the way. He, is the light of the way.
His voice, speaks the truth to be heard. His words, ignite the spirit. He, nurtures the heart. He, marks the steps of the way.
I don’t know. That way looks tough. I’m not sure Ill meet His expectations. I’m not sure I'll withstand His test. I’m not sure....
I could choose another way. I could ignore His voice. He, expects commitment! He, expects . . . love.
I need time to make sense of this. Don’t I need to know His plan? I have difficulty accepting And believing without knowing.
And anyway. How could I measure up to Him? His purity. His beauty. His truth of thought. His oneness with You.
And yet, I feel that He was me. He knew me. We were friends. We were, brothers.
But He is worlds beyond me, Lord. My thoughts and dreams are finite. His visions, infinite. His love, omnipotent.
Did he ever question, Lord? Did He ever wonder: Where is my direction? What is my fulfillment?
We were not born friends. We were not born brothers. I didn’t know Him. I had to know Him!
Warily, I approached Him. Tentatively, I touched His cloak. Cautiously, I touched His hand. He, UNCONDITIONALLY, embraced me!
I was overwhelmed! He was knowing me, As if He always had. I was awestruck.
I felt His comfort. It calmed my fear, It sparked my soul, It lifted my spirit!
Immediately intimate, I was naked in His light. I was warmed by His love. I was immersed in His goodness.
But alone again, I’m troubled with my thoughts of needing Him. I tremble with my thoughts of .. . of loving Him. How do I love, Him?
What about MY pain? But then . . . what of his pain? Didn’t He endure the pain of the world? Didn’t He?
He is the healer of pain. Seek Him. Let Him touch you. He is touching. He is loving.
And what of OUR needing? We weren’t born friends. We weren’t born brothers. Can WE love each other?
Surely, I can love you, Can’t I? Surely, you can love me, Won’t you?
We, too, are the healers of pain. Let me touch you. You are healed. Touch me. I am healed. We, are touching. We, are loving.
Our loving is our communion with God. For God is love. And our love is God abiding in us. Release His love. Release His power.
Alleluia!
