The Chris-Craft Smile

by Max Carlson

It took a whole year for my sister and Peter to plan this wedding. When we went to our lake cabin, my sister kept thinking and talking about the wedding. It made me so proud. When we went on the Chris-Craft boat, she would sit right next to Peter, and a little smile came on Peter’s face. When we would eat, she would talk to him on the phone. When he wasn’t there she would talk to him almost all night. I could tell they would never put an end to this marriage.

Soon it was winter. Vanessa, my mom, and I went to a church called Bethlehem Covenant to plan the music. Next we went to Town and Country Club to plan the reception. Then we went to the florist and the photographer. After that, we got back into the car, and I said, “OK, we got the music, the church, the flowers, and the photographer. What Next?” I had to ask! The next thing was the tuxedos and the dresses.

The wedding rehearsal came next. It wasn’t as hard as I thought until I found out I had to walk down the aisle with a girl! Thank goodness it was my cousin Lauren.

That night my sister couldn't sleep. Tomorrow was the big day.

At the wedding, the photographer took so many pictures that my cheeks hurt from smiling and my eyes were almost blind. Then the people we took forever to invite and make out their invitations, sat down. I ushered my mom down the aisle. Then I ushered my grandma. Then the bridesmaids came down, and I walked my cousin down. Finally the bride came. Then we went to the reception. My sister and Peter came in a limo. My cousin and I rocketed some bird seed at her, since we missed it earlier. I will always remember March 14, 1992, as one of the most special and tiring days of my life.
