Sleepers, Don’t Wake!

by Don Norris

It’s time you learn of that fraternity
Of stay-at-home and fell insomniac;
Slaves of time and space, we do contract
Needed travel, dreamful sleep without calamity.

We roll and pile and stack enough similitude
To seem like life at home for those away;
Enormous drain ’gainst stasis or decay
To manufacture just one day’s vicissitude.

The ceaseless night’s coordinated watch
Takes appalling toll of us who are
Determined no discontinuity shall mar
Your disawareness of our care’s debauch.
