Summer Dusk

by Ann Boaden

Summer dusk nudges
daylight to the tops of trees;
compels attention to
the gently vanishing earth:
the shaggy rose dawns and
ruffled yellow noons of peonies, and
the lilacs’ lovely evenings;
the tufted grass and circled clover,
and the last bird
tinkering with its song
before sleep.
