Arisen is the Christ

by N.F.S. Grundtvig and translated by Mark Safstrom

Arisen is the Christ, our Lord
– Hal-le-lujah, hal-le-lujah! –
Sweet hope, for ev’ry tribe, restored
– Hal-le-lujah, hal-le-lujah!
As morning sun beams dazzling red
– Hal-le-lujah, hal-le-lujah! –
Stood Jesus Christ up from the dead
– Hal-le-lujah, hal-le-lujah!
As he was raised, shall we be, too
– Hal-le-lujah, hal-le-lujah! –
And soar to join him in the blue
– Hal-le-lujah, hal-le-lujah!

An essential figure in Danish hymnody, N.F.S. Grundtvig (1783-1872) was also at the forefront of a religious, economic, and educational reform movement which bore his name.
