Carol Jackson
1930-2008
Carol Ruth (Lindahl) Jackson, 78, died on December 7, 2008, at Chandler Regional Hospital. She lived in Beechwood, Michigan during the summers and in Sun Lakes, Arizona in the winters.
Carol was born in Iron River, Michigan on September 15, 1930, daughter of the late Harold and Martha Lindahl. She graduated from Iron River High School in 1948 and from North Park Jr. College in Chicago, with an A. A. Degree in 1950. She also attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan.
On December 26, 1952, she married Berwyn Jackson, who worked for Lindahl Chevrolet Garage. He died in 1971 in an automobile accident, and Carol has been a widow since. She took loving care of her brain-injured son, Leland, for 37 years.
Carol had many good friends around the country. She was a friendly, colorful, interesting, and outgoing person. Though she did not have an easy life, she was fun to be with. Carol related well to children. She always arrived with a small gift for each child.
Carol was employed for several years at the M. A. Hanna Company, E & E Hardware, and the Iron River Cooperative TV Antenna Corporation. She was Past President of the 20th Century Club, a member of the Lady Elks, The Scandinavian Club in Sun Lakes, Arizona, and a member of numerous other clubs in Arizona. For many years, she worked as a self-employed home decorator. Her hobbies were jewelry-making, antiques, bridge, entertaining, and reading. She would read the monthly Smithsonian Magazine from cover to cover and liked to discuss the articles. She traveled to Sweden in the winter of 1988 and enjoyed especially the Santa Lucia events. A pietist at heart, her favorite Bible verse was Psalms 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.”
She is survived by two sons, Leland Jackson, who resides in the Iron River Care Center, and Glenn (Elaine) Jackson of Sun Lakes, Arizona, and two grandsons, Matthew and Scott Jackson. She was very proud of her two grandsons. Carol is also survived by brothers, Curtis (Eleanor) and Elder (Muriel) and David (Betty) and a sister, Ruby (Charles) Isaacson and by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Spring, 2009 at Grace Covenant Church of Iron River where she was a member.
