Harriet Wistrom
1922 to 2004
Generations of North Park students knew Harriet Wistrom. She was the kind, gracious woman who lived for many years in the apartment above the boiler room and was the wife of our great boss, Ivar, and mother of Susie and Carl. Ivar and Harriet married September 14, 1946 giving them 58 married years together.
Harriet worked at North Park first in the Campus Bookstore and later as North Park Academy librarian. When the Academy closed in 1969 she worked in the College library.
In 1984, Ivar and Harriet retired from North Park and relocated to LaPorte, Indiana, near their daughter Susan and the grand-children. They lived there 20 years. Because of health issues, they moved to the Brandel Care Center of Covenant Village Northbrook, Illinois, where Ivar continues to reside.
Harriet is survived by her husband, Ivar—the legendary keeper of buildings and grounds at North Park, her daughter Susan (husband Tom), and their children Matthew, Michael, and Kari. Susan and Tom recently moved to Tennessee. Harriet is also survived by her son Carl (wife Esther) who lives in Chicago where Carl carries on the Wistrom tradition as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at North Park.
Fittingly, a memorial service for Harriet was held in Anderson Chapel on the campus of North Park on June 7, 2004. God bless her memory.
