Twin City Covenant Basketball: A Brief History (Winter 1991)
In the winter of 1936-37, the first meeting to organize a Twin City Covenant Basketball League was held at the old Minnehaha Academy office. Play began shortly following the Holiday Season in Minnehaha’s small gym with the concrete floor. The free throw circles almost intersected with the center jump area. A fast break would have been easy, but no doubt the game was slowed considerably by the need to return to the center circle for a jump ball after each basket.
Finding Sam (Fall 1998)
I first met Sam VanderJagt in the barracks of the Dodge City Air Base in Kansas. It was late 1945, and I noticed that he knelt to pray by his cot before he retired for the evening.
Sports Seen (Fall 1998)
We arrived just in time–before the soccer game began–and took our seats in the very back row of the lower section in the Hubert Humphrey Metrodome. Looking to the right, who should we see but a really old time Minnehaha fan, none other than Milton C.R. Carlson!
